August 7, 2014 - Earthy, smoky, red plums, medium bodied, lighter style of Clos des Papes with a focus on freshness, elegance, bright red fruits and spice. Drink this Burgundian styled wine on the young side. If you are thinking Parker is off his game on all the high scoring years, due to too much alcohol and fruit, you will like this wine a lot.

June 25, 2014 - Notes after bottle had been open for 12 hours. Bright ruby color with a notch of garnet, about 60% opaque with clear, quick legs and moderate sediment present
Profound redcurrant, blue plum, intense clove, jasmine, and a little bretty funk that gives way to dirt and sweet tobacco over time. Flavors are rich and deep, but the palate is deft and agile with acidity. Tannins are perfectly soft and there is a little heat on the tail end. Finish is dry with long persistence. Certainly not in any coma and fully approachable. Structured to drink well for several more years.
I've never really been stung by the Chateauneuf bug, but this certainly scratches an itch that Beaucastel doesn't. I gotta say that the Dacalier De La Terre (made in Napa by one of our Cellartracker friends) at $20+/- , gives me all the same pleasure that this $60-$70 Rhone giant does. Okay, maybe not as complex or nuanced as this, but it's close enough for any value-conscious palate. 5+13+17+8 = 93

June 14, 2014 - Decanted and let breath for about an hour(no solids to discard). Immediately struck by the rich and complex nose of dark cherries, plums, caramel, and a hint of spice. Tastes fantastically rich and pure. Red fruits with a hint of fresh mushrooms that just seems to change ever so slightly with every sip. Probably drinking at or near its peak right now.
