October 25, 2023 - Past its best
July 7, 2023 - Excellent mature Barolo. Good red fruit complicated with balsamic, iron, tar and earth. Prominent acidity. Great food wine.
December 14, 2022 - Consistent with previous note but this bottle is definitely less .... not as tasty. Its just less of everything, although the aromas and flavours from the previous bottle are similar ... just less. Maybe a bit more balsamics showing as well.
September 24, 2022 - Drinking nicely. Aromas showing florals, herbs, and red berry fruits. Some balsamic, and earthiness as well. Nice rich red berry fruits, sappiness but not heavy or plodding, balsamic, iron, and an herbal/savoury tone. Overall, medium weight, not heavy and still good acidity to keep it sharp. Dusty/chalky tannins. This wine has good presence.
April 30, 2022 - On a decline. Browning around the edges
Fruit is a bit pruney but tannins are still robust
May 23, 2021 - In a really nice spot right now. Tannins still a bit chalky, but not harsh, and definitely mitigated with food. Straddling that secondary/tertiary line right now. Good aromatics and length. Drink now-2026.
May 9, 2018 - At Veglio
Reticent at first, after around 45 minutes of opening, a beautiful nose unfurls. Rich and ripe, with tar, and balsamic and ferrous notes more than roses, nettles, and bouillon. Full bodied and structured with the warmth of the year adding weight and a sense of sap but not heaviness or anything fat. Warm forward fruit, with with plenty of structure to carry it. Drinking beautifully, becoming more balsamic than savory by the end of the bottle. I loved this wine.
December 16, 2016 - Light and rusty in color, showing its age with tons of brickage on the edges. On the nose the wine is hot with mostly smells of alcohol. Maybe a hint of spice on the nose. On the palate this one starts out light, but quickly becomes acidic and astringent. Finish is harsh. Note sure if this wine is in an ackward place or just off. A bit of a disappointment.
December 29, 2015 - starting to come around, just edging past its primary phase and starting to open up - lots of tannin typical of the house, but, with fruit to balance in this vintage. Hold.
March 19, 2011 - Ruby red with brickish rim. Typical cherry/leather/violets aroma profile but boy did you have to coax it out. No denying that this is just a baby but not as fiercely tannic as some which tells me that this should start drinking well in about 3 years, rather than the typical 5 yrs from release. Intentionally not rated.
