November 4, 2022 - 2004 Piedmont Theme dinner at Solo Ristorante. Drank in Conterno Sensory.
Bordeaux decant done back into bottle beforehand. Moderate amount of sediment at bottom of bottle. I drank up the sediment pour - lovely explosion of savoury umami meat broth, not like the typical tertiary tea leaves of other sediment pours in other wines I have had before.
Appearance pale intensity, garnet colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of mushroom, beef broth, earth, iron, dried red plums, dried sour red cherries, rose + tar. Developed.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14.5%), resolved high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity with flavours of mushroom earth, beefy meat broth, iron + tar, melted rose petals, dried sour red cherries, ripe red plums. Long rumbling finish. At times felt like the fruit could be a little stewed, but seemed to recover and then still meatily going strong next 2 days. Classic Grand Cru.

December 26, 2020 - This is a very old world wine, upon opening with a very mute nose, but started singing after 1h decant. It needs probably at least 2h as with air it just changes dramatically. Dusty but well integrated tannins, dark fruit, not very fruity but depth and robust elegance, some leather and mushroom, feels like an older, well made NSG, but with more tannins, body. Colour would imply the wine is at maturity but as so often with Barolo this has many years to go on, it will drink for another 10y very well and you might keep few bottles in the cellar for another few years before opening. Powerful but discreet. Impressive.

October 31, 2020 - Blind. Menthol, red fruit; Extreme amounts of tannin. Milk and yogurt had to be passed around to loosen the tongue from the palate. Hence, unbalanced. I doubt this will ever come around.

Stor og heftig i anslaget, men mangler litt frukt vs Massolino og Roagna. Vel mye eik og heftig tanninstruktur.
