  May 9, 2015 - Upon opening the aromas are burnt rubber/reduced. Also candied dark fruits. The palate hits full throttle and is massive. Some delicate raspberry fruit. Mouth coating and sweet. No tannins. 15.8% but I didn't notice any heat. Did not intentionally keep this one so long but it happened. Better in its youth but we enjoyed it for what it is now.

  December 30, 2012 - The wine is a deep, dark purple color. The dark and inviting nose has blackberries, smoked meat, baking spices, black pepper, dark chocolate, dried herbs, wild flowers, and a bit of earthiness. The wine has a medium to full body with mostly integrated, ripe tannins and good acidity. On the palate, some of the usual Carlisle up front fruit has receded allowing more of the savory elements to show themselves. This does not mean the fruit is gone, it is still front and center, it is just allowing more room for the earth, meat, pepper, and spices to add tremendous depth. The finish is fairly long with berries, smoked meat, and earthy elements leading the way. This is in a real nice place.

  February 4, 2012 - From a bottle that had been opened, but not decanted for about 3 hours. Medium ruby color with some lightening at the edge. Blackberries, baking spices, dark chocolate, smoked meat, pepper, licorice, and a bit of earthiness on the very nice nose. Medium to full bodied with ripe, fairly integrated tannins and nice acidity. This wine has aged nicely, losing some of the up front fruit and softening. The ABV was a very surprising 15.8%, since it was in no way noticeable. Very nice showing.
