February 22, 2024 - Superb. Plenty of runway left for this sumptuous, rich, purple, fruit-filled, luxuriant Napa Cab. Bravo, Caymus!

January 1, 2024 - This wine may be past its prime, but in a good place for folks that like to drink their wine older. Little to no tannins, very soft and sweet. Decanted for a couple hours before drinking.

November 28, 2023 - Past its prime, but still enjoyable if you like older wines. Drink up

October 23, 2022 - I agree with comments that Caymus cabs are too fruit forward without nuance. But will admit that age has treated us one well. A little more balance, slight tannins, some oak.

September 1, 2022 - Surprisingly good and better than my last tasting. The fruit bomb characteristic has faded away, but plenty of fruit remains. Good balance of fruit & aromatics. Large amount of sediment.

July 24, 2022 - Very dark re/purple color. PNP, drank a couple glasses over 2 hours. Brought this to the Ranch to drink with dinner. Right smack in the peak window I would suspect. Creme de cassis on the nose, boysenberry, scorched earth. The palate is lwell balanced and shows brambly dark fruits with a mix of cassis, blackberry and boysenberry, blaclk licorice, scorched earth, pepper, some light herbaceous notes, finishing with some nice spices. Full bodied, really nice polished tannins and a medium plus finish. A definite crowd pleaser as dad was the most thrilled. Should continue to drink well for another 5 years anyway.

April 29, 2022 - Decanted 30 minutes, last bottle of 8, personally cellared since near release. I have tasted a number of Caymus Cabernets over the years starting with the 1978 vintage and always found them to be precocious, extracted, fruit forward cab’s that were always over the top for some taster and the 2008 vintage is no exception. I have never thought that these fruit bombs were ever meant for the long haul as in the case of the 2008 vintage, which the fruit is fading and the secondary notes show the flaws the sweet extracted fruit has been covering up since release. My personal reviews have noted this since my first note way back in 2010, IMO I would drink this vintage as well as any older non Special Selection Caymus sooner than later while the fruit is still lingering.

March 4, 2022 - As I noted in a previous tasting note, I seem to have had a better experience with this wine than is the case with other cellartracker.com tasters. This was the best bottle in the case, as well as the last one. I have had 2022 as the back end of the drink window. That may not be the case. I have also previously noted that two bottles of this one consumed in 2020 were subpar. I noted that a bottle consumed in 2021 rallied markedly. So, it seems to have gone through a "dumb" phase.
