October 19, 2022 - Good Shiraz but a little bit over the top now. Was great 6-7 years ago.

October 16, 2021 - Manny's wine. The dill and pine resin notes of American oak jump at you from the getgo and don't let go. (Might have receded somewhat if decanted longer.) Sweet, caramelly fruit make it a surprisingly good match for tiramisu. Very very good showing for a 25 year old wine, but you better love your American oak.

September 19, 2021 - This beautiful wine has lost a but of its fullness but otherwise still great and perfectly balanced

July 4, 2019 - found in the corner of my cellar. As a huge fruit bomb, I had little hope for this wne. What a surprise. PnP. Huge nose with black berry, a lot of fruit and a lot of black pepper, spices. Similar flavors. Beautiful balance. Much better than when it was young. Long silky smooth finish.
In its youth, I never would have guessed it would have develped into such a beautiful wine. One bottle left and no hurry to open it.

November 14, 2018 - I have ranted in the past about Australian Shiraz from the mid 90s era...over extracted, over hyped, and over scored (see Parker). They have not aged well and epitomized the “Parker effect”. So twice I have had to eat crow, both with E and E Black Pepper. This wine (the 1996] has been sitting in the cellar since 2009...I was loathe to open it knowing it would be well over the hill.
So. Almost no brick, sweet nose of dark fruit, but no raisin character whatsoever. In the mouth, smooth as silk, noober ripeness, still plenty of fruit and tons of...black pepper. We were honestly shocked. Hats off to BVE for this terrifically made and age worthywine.
