Community Tasting Notes 10

July 18, 2011 - Wine Education Service - Italy - The Deep South (LSE): Green gold.
    Aromatic, attractive, mineral, slightly vegetal.
Bitter, refreshing, slight sweetness in the mid palate, needs food, long.

June 22, 2011 - Concerned that it's a bit too golden. Initially pretty apple and flowers which fade over time to simple old apple. Dry, quite rich in the mouth with weight and length. Finishes with some coarseness that feels like mild sunburn which also explains the color. Overall this doesn't come together as a complete wine but it has promising elements and should improve in subsequent vintages. Not bad at the table but my wife insisted on something else.

November 3, 2010 - Modern in style with sweet fruit and high aromatics. Interesting, but not very compelling. Fine at $14.

September 19, 2010 - One of the more interesting Vermentinos I've ever had! Giacomo Tachis of Sassicaia consults for this winery and is doing some great stuff. Nose of ripe pear nectar mixed with florals and a slight green herb note. On the palate, viscous and oily, but balanced perfectly with tingling acidity and minerality, with just a touch of brininess and an almost walnut oil characteristic. Reminds me of a Fall salad. For those of you who think all Italian whites are simple thirst quenchers, this one certainly qualifies as thought provoking. And you should be able to find it for ~$15 or less. Seek this out. (Full disclosure: I am a sales rep and this is one of the wines in my portfolio. Given my surprise when tasting it, however, I thought it warranted a tasting note and a little positive exposure.)

August 8, 2010 - For those who haven't drank many Vermentino's in their lives AND loved most of those so far...this Vermentino will be difficult to grasp for them. It is everything but your easy to drink Sardinian white. It's nose will overwhelm you with overripe peaches and smokey tones. And do you remember the pear drups you bought for a penny back in the days? Well, those drups form most of the palate, together with more ripe yellow fruit. A genuine 91 points? Yes! But only if you like complex, multi-layered wines. Only then you will respect this Vermentino. Drink now or wait max 18 more months.
