February 12, 2024 - Popped & poured, outstanding bottle of the afternoon, excellent ullage, nose was still fresh but with full on aged Bordeaux nuances, soft with substantial fruits in the mouth, brilliant aged Calon Segur

November 11, 2023 - A fabulous bottle here showing fully mature but still plenty in the tank. Very 1970 in it's black fruit profile and gruff texture but the complexity on the finish is profound! Dark spices, charred wood, tobacco, smoky gravel and a touch of mint grace the palate as it flows by. Really good mature Bordeaux.

September 1, 2023 - Meaty, rustic, firm, and loaded with tobacco, herbs, cigar wrappers, and crisp, red fruits, with a strong dose of mint, this classic-styled, old-school wine is a blast from the past. Drink from 2023-2030.

January 30, 2023 - Remarkable wine at 53 years of age!
Purchased from a high quality cellar
    High shoulder fill
    Perfect cork
    No decant
    Brick color
Excellent Bordeaux nose: a couple of minutes of mustiness (in a good way) that blows off to a combination of lovely raspberry, prominent leather and a hint of raw meat - plus a bit of barnyard.
Drinks like a 30 year old wine with beautiful raspberry and cherry fruit, leather and tobacco. The finish is not as long and complex as it probably once was but it lingers nicely.
Consumed over 3 hours and did not fade at all. A marvel.

December 29, 2022 - Talking Bordeaux (The Kenwood, Mpls, MN): Bricked medium dark red color. PNP, followed a glass over an hour. In my opinion, this just wasn't right. Lacking in fruit, soy sauce, vegetal and somewhat cabbage like, angular. No score.

March 11, 2022 - Very high shoulder. Bought a "ah so" wine opener, because Im tired of cork in the wine, but the cork went immediately down in the wine. No signs of leaking though.
Colour with an orange rim, but doesn't look like a 52 years old wine.
The wine develops during the first hour or so, becomes bigger and more nuanced, so i guess this is in its drinking window and not even close to be over the hill(at least this bottle) .
Nose first with forest floor, graphite, at times perfumed and sweet blackcurrant.
Palate with plenty of sweet fruit thats delicious and almost juicy. There's plenty of dryness and tannins to balance and a medium finish.
This is so clean, elegant and balanced and must be what you call bdx. claret.
Big surprice and I would of course never have guessed Calon Segur, nor 1970. Just great.

January 15, 2020 - This wine held up very well and everyone preferred over the 1970 Montevideo. Not a lot of life yet but still fun to drink

November 25, 2019 - As is typical with Calon Segur, holding in great shape. Very classic graphite, cassis and tobacco, with good fruit left on the palate. Wonderful Bordeaux with no hints that it’s about to dip behind its plateau. One of the wines of the night.
