Community Tasting Notes 9

July 22, 2019 - Quite good, although in some sense the wine hasn't budged since 2014 (and maybe even slipped a hair: I'll go with 89 tonight rather than 90, which is what I opted for in 2014). Medium ruby. The nose is dominated by red currents and has a pronounced basmati rice aroma (if it were more intense you could call it sasparilla, but this isn't quite that far over). Medium bodied, tart fruit (again, red currents), long mineral finish has a nice lift. As mature as it is likely to get...

May 15, 2014 - A very enjoyable wine at this stage and an incredible bargain at $22. Medium ruby, with a nose of black cherries and sweet freshly mowed grass, lovely griotte cherry fruit, lifting acidity, clean lines. Drink up!

September 23, 2012 - Medium ruby, very light nose. Open one hour. Dry tart tannins, medium body. Espresso, bitter chocolate covered cherries, not the bright berries I like with more age. Should have given more time, but wanted a Pinot for pork roast. I would give more time before drinking. I will see what tomorrow brings. Night two, bright red berries starting to develop, nice acid, fruit balance with some soft tannins. Light stone fruit, dusty cherries. A bit short tart finish. For $20, not bad.

March 31, 2012 - Good, very much showing the darker fruits of the vintage.

November 18, 2011 - Clear, medium ruby colour. Clean, medium intensity aromas of black cherry, plum, and earth notes. Dry, medium-plus acidity and light bodied with light tannins. Many nicely mingled red fruits on the palate, with cherries and raspberries dominating; spice, tasteful oak, and again an earthiness round it out. Good length. 13.5% alcohol. Overall very good, really enjoyable; I definitely recommend this one.
