April 6, 2016 - This is definitely more of a classic style by Napa standards. Could use a bit more air or time in the bottle I think. Still quite good, but I personally prefer a more fruit forward style for Napa Cabernet.

March 12, 2016 - Raspberry dominated with a touch of darker fruit (black currant?). Chocolate. Vanilla, lightly oaked. Elegant and balanced. Not overextracted. Like it a lot.

March 12, 2016 - Dark garnet. Red fruit, spice, licorice , a hint of vanilla but the oak is very subtle. Elegant, not heavy, more red than dark fruit, nice medium ripe cherry and moderately long finish.

March 11, 2016 - I bought this Napa CabSav bottle as part of my regular non-core wine education (non-core meaning wines that I neither collect nor regularly drink), to keep up with the developments in California. This is a prominent estate with high RP scores. I don't fully see why at least not from this wine. After all, the name of the game is not, "the sweeter the better". The more I drink Napa CabSav blends, the more I wish the region would move away from the ripeness/late harvest spell - or is it just global warming?
Tasting Note: Dark purple, still quite youthful color. Nose of creme de cassis and blueberry mainly with additional pine and forest notes. On the palate this is very "cassis & blueberry sweet" for my taste, too sweet. The acidity is here, so it is not flabby, don't get me wrong, however there is a lack of sappyness and aromatic complexity beyond the cassis spectrum to make this score 95 or even beyond. There is a reason why I don't drink orange or grape juice when I eat a steak, for the same reason I need a CabSav that is not so overripe. Put a Ridge MonteBello next to this and you know what I mean.

    February 28, 2016 - Decanted and served.
Very much a hallmark elegant Napa Cabernet . Elegant wine with signature Napa ripeness but made with a light hand and allowed to stay in balance with with purity. Nice black fruits on the notes, light herbs, light graphite at times. Fresh and full of energy, Young of course but not austere or reserved. The oak is definitely there but the wine owns the oak and you cannot argue that is up there with the Tognis of this world that it shares a style. Very good. How one rates this at this stage has a lot to do with preference . Andreas 94, Nicol 92 hence 93 from us, for now but should command higher scores as time goes by.
