November 10, 2023 - Deep golden. From the start an intense fruity, but also complex nose with petrol, spices in addition to the yellow fruits and the touch of pineapple. The nose is really impressive. On the palate it feels rather light given the intensity of the nose. But the palate remains so calm and settled, without anything loud but with a long long fruity finish and great balance. The sweetness is largely shed. 5/14/17/9+. -2030+
August 19, 2023 - Amazingly lush, ripe, and concentrated. Velvety mouthfeel with that special mineral and oily characteristic of aged rieslings.
August 17, 2023 - Quite a big and sweet wine, but with sufficient acidity to keep this very interesting. Peaches, pineapple, some unripe mango, flowers, cream. Pure Hermannshohle power! Agree with suggestions to drink this reasonably cold.
July 2, 2023 - In a very nice place, this is a large scaled Hermann Spat, loaded with very ripe lychee and mango. Enough acidity to keep it in check, fairly sweet. I actually liked this a little more chilled than I normally would consider the proper white temp - it seemed to lessons he sweetness and show case the acidity a bit more.
March 12, 2023 - Light gold in color. Initial whiff of petrol that gives way to herbs, florals, stone fruits, yellow citrus and hint of tropical fruits. An expansive & viscous palate shows dense peach/nectarine + tropical fruit marmalade, loads of honey suckle, good acidity and a long sweet finish.
March 9, 2023 - Coravin fun - European Riesling (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Cream, slight butter, a little meaty spice, backed by stone fruit and ripe red apple. Juicy, medium plus intensity acidity, stone fruit, ripe red apple, a little honey, like the 2008 it is equally generous, rather nice…splendid in fact. Yum
December 30, 2022 - A 4-top at Broders: Served a little too warm, but this riesling was classy, with stone fruits, a round mouth feel and balancing acidity. This was great by itself and with a burrata salad
November 19, 2022 - Medium dark yellow. Tropical fruit nose with a mineral note. Palate is similar. Perhaps a bit sweeter tonight than previous notes, but this is excellent.
Maybe best served quite chilled - excellent wine.
October 5, 2022 - Bottle purchased in Germany in 2020. Unsure of storage up until that point. Served in Zalto Universal.
Very expressive right upon opening.
Rich peach, sweet apple, apricot and saffron. A bit of caramelization. Quite sweet, blind I probably would have thought this was an auslese, especially since I find that the auslese from Donnhoff are often in a fairly light style, which I am a big fan of.
Very good quality, but I can’t help but think that this could have used a little more cut, especially as I love spatlese with a slight green herbal edge, which I normally find in Donnhoff, especially the Oberhauser Brucke. However, this is still a great wine and in balance.
March 6, 2022 - Very impressive. Beautiful golden colour. Subtle nose, slightly earthy, but rich full texture. Delicious. Sweetness is there, but in proportion.
Bottle taken to restaurant (Jikoni in London) and paired beautifully with Asian fusion food predominantly vegetarian, including curries and fruit flavours.
