October 7, 2016 - After an hour decanted a little dry and uninteresting, drank with a steak was ok, the last glass four hours later actually started to show some thing with length, better than pleasant.

December 1, 2012 - {screwcap, 14%} Briary, savoury, even a touch rustic; not without fruit sweetness of a fairly generic kind. It's not obviously cabernet; has a coffee/malt note to it (not overly oaky though); fine grainy tannins, medium-bodied, loose-knit and evena touch rustic, although always in a new-world context. Pretty good in the shorter term.

April 21, 2012 - {screwcap, 14%} Still deep ruby. Very much primary; cassis/currants, dark chocolate, maybe some coffee. All very dark-hued and not terribly oaky. Nose is more expressive than palate, which is quite tightly bound with cool-climate cabernet flavours; cassis, olive, plums. Low-level dusty tannins say this is ready to drink; the acid is unobtrusive, and the wine only around medium-bodied with a short-medium finish. It's pleasant enough; but is oddly contradictory between the nose and palate; nose tells you it's a long-lived classic, palate is rather diffuse and doesn't really grab you in any sense. Sticking with my original call of an early drinker here.

June 25, 2011 - Very dark, purple. Big and intense nose. Started with some freshly baked muffins, quite sweet, then more rich fruit. Medium to full bodied. Quite smooth, big flavours, cassis, big tannins. Next night had settled down and still fresh. Nice wine but could do with a year or two before trying again. Very good value.

September 4, 2010 - Tyrrells Private Bins - 2009 reds & 2010 whites (North Ryde RSL, Sydney): {screwcap, 14%, A$25} Here’s the contrast to the Hunter-based reds. Curranty essence of cabernet aromas, with cloves and cocoa too. On the palate there’s liquorice and tobacco, deeply-flavoured current/black olive fruits, medium chalky tannins, medium body and a medium length finish. Matured in big new barrels, and containing the tiniest seasoning of Coonawarra petit verdot and McLaren Vale malbec, just to balance it out. Attractive young red that avoids assaulting the palate; the value buy for earlier drinking (5-10 years)
