Community Tasting Notes 5

January 25, 2014 - Color: medium-deep gold. Luscious bouquet of apricot, quince, mandarin oranges. Apricots and quince in abundance on the palate. Medium sweet with good botrytis character and plenty of body. Lively -- acidity a bit sharper than what I would have expected from a Sauternes of the same age. Finish could be a tad longer but perhaps I'm just splitting hairs . . . .

April 22, 2011 - Honey, honeysuckle, apricot. Somehow not up to its usual snuff.

January 27, 2011 - Extremely gold in color, very smooth and sweet. Mellow in the mid-mouth.

January 31, 2010 - One of those wines I wish I had bought a lot more of - this is incredibly luscious and sweet with mandarin orange, apricot and tropical fruit flavours drenched in honey and spice, but there's an interesting wooly Chenin character underneath and faint waxy and herbal notes that develop with air and keep it much more interesting than a standard botrytised dessert wine. Fantastic value too at $25 for a 750 ml from Crush that goes a long way - opened the bottle 10 days ago, and the last glass this evening was still really delicious with the flavours still retaining all their freshness and depth.

September 6, 2008 - My contribution at the CT Wine Event. This was the more mature of the Baumards tasted. Light golden color. Nose of apricot, peach, spice. Similar palate with a spiciness the '02 QDC lacked. Slight orange rind. Nice acidity.
