April 30, 2022 - Red, White and a Rarity (Sammamish, Washington): Slightly funky nose. Medium dark-amber in color. Nice red fruit profile, with only a small fraction of the funky nose appearing on the palate. Some umami and mocha notes. Very slurpable with rich palate and nice tannins on the long finish.
September 28, 2021 - 2021 FTLOP Harvest Tour; 9/19/2021-10/2/2021 (Portgugal): This is one of my favorite Vintage Ports from Portal. In an “off” year, they managed to produce a wine that not only has great structure and staying power but is also very easy to drink. Black currant and boysenberry on the nose, with dark fruit and luscious blackberry and blueberry on the palate. The structure is great, and the wine has good balance. Long finish.
March 30, 2019 - Nutty. Figs. One can taste the alcohol. Just a little light on body. Refreshing.
September 12, 2017 - Drunk, as usual, from D+8.
Decent enough, but a little goopey, sweet, and lacking in the acid bite for my taste.
March 6, 2015 - [caveat lector, while I have been drinking vintage port for over 20 years, that's typically at the rate of 2-3 times per year, so my palate is far from expert] nose is a dead ringer for vanilla extract (i.e., the liquid used in baking) and not much else, intensely sweet and rather alcoholic on the palate and generally not as integrated and complex as I would hope to see in a fine vintage port. Nevertheless, has pleasant flavors of dates, vanilla and sarsaparilla; and not a bad after-dinner drink all around given that it is not likely to be expensive.
October 2, 2013 - 2013 Port Harvest Tour; 9/27/2013-10/6/2013 (Porto, Portugal): Vibrant nose of raspberry and some cola. Great structure. Balanced red fruit and cola on the finish. Some nice rounded tannins.
August 5, 2008 - Very dark red that is nearly opaque. The nose is moderately complex with aromas of cinnamon, cherry, and black berry. On the palate it is medium to full body with lower acidity and ripe firm tannins that are starting to integrate. The finish is persistent and warm with hints of cherries and other fruit. A very solid Port that will likely improve over the next decade or two. I'll try to save my remaining bottle for at least 10 years but this tastes so good, the likelihood of that happening is slim.
October 9, 2006 - Color is where it should be, just a hugh nosehas great balance, structure, acidity,. and tannins for the long haul. Unfortunitly it was just barliy corked which was not evident at first opening, but became evident later on. To bad as this will be a great port and a must buy if you can find it.
