June 25, 2021 - Screwcap, 18% alc. 375 ml. Purchased August 2009. Opaque, dark red to black, bricking at rim but still showing vibrancy of colour.
Concentrated nose of raspberry, blackberry liqueur, gentle wood spice, grape spirit, star anise, and intriguing top notes of tobacco and tomato leaf.
Rich, sweet, ripe fruit. Quite viscous; the initial impression is one of insufficient acidity to cut through the slightly cloying palate. However it tightens up on the finish and even shows some fine tannic grip.
Opinion: Not too serious, but fun to drink with chocolate and rich desserts. Really grows on you after a few days open. Has the depth and sweetness of a classic level Rutherglen muscat. I can’t see any reason why this would fall over anytime in the next decade -

January 26, 2018 - Full on, very sweet, brisk acidity, a cross between Quady Black Muscat & recioto. Alcohol sticks out a bit too far. Distinctive, bags of character.

November 24, 2017 - Interesting stuff, never had it before. Olive tapenade everywhere and salty figs on the nose, with the figgy salinity thing coating the palate. Yummy, but be careful with your pairing.

October 4, 2016 - Delicious intense raisins on a stick. Yum with 99 dark chocolate.

August 4, 2016 - Took to Somm Guild annual business meeting, where probably 15 people consumed just over half of the 375 bottle. This was perfect occasion for this, as no one had ever seen one before, and one small sip is so intense and mouth-coating that it is all you need. (I gradually finished over the next month, with no real drop off in taste.) Most everyone liked it, and I do as well for a sip or two, but no in volume. It's steroidal sweet prune, blackberry syrup, bacon paste, kalamata olive. A bit of Fernet Branca as well with herbal/amari finish. High alcohol, but not really hot.
