Community Tasting Notes 10

February 13, 2024 - Classically austere with a faint note of cedar and pencils, mingled with a little mint and mustiness indicating a slight TCA issue. Sleek, dry and with a delightful spice infusion, the tannins simply melted in the mouth to leave a pleasing finish. Understandably there was little by way of fruit but in terms of structure there was still much to admire. I’d prefer to mark this as faulty by virtue of cork taint, in spite of the fact it was still drinkable. CHP 0 pts

September 18, 2018 - Perfect fill for its age. Disappointing on the first day- a pleasant enough though simple nose. Lots of dusty tertiary tones. Very dilute tasting though. Finished OK. Pretty much how I'd expect a 1973 left bank wine to taste.

Day 2 is much better though. The wine has filled out nicely- not intensely concentrated but not noticeably dilute either. Attractively sweet; still not a particularly multi-faceted wine, but very pleasant indeed to drink if you like elderly Bordeaux.

April 9, 2016 - The bottle was in good condition, level HS (high shoulder) with mould on cork. The color was dark brick red. Medium to full body with elegant acidity and nice acids. The nose and taste was a satisfaction with pepper dried fruits and sun ripe sicilian tomatoes. A miracle that this wine was still alive and will probably be for another five years.

November 6, 2015 - Bottle in very good condition, fill level ts. Great colour - really dark core still with nice discolouration around the rim. Clear and glowing. On the nose a little tired and not very intense. Undergrowth, spice box, black tea, tobacco but not much fruit, increasingly vegetal. On the palate soft and smooth, no noticeable tannins, not much fruit, a bit flabby with green notes emerging. With more air slightly aggressive acidity, but still very much alive. A little short towards the finish. Lacking concentration and depth as many of the 1973s probably always did - now past its best, but still a very decent bottle. 87-89
