February 23, 2019 - Served from magnum. This was terrific. Plenty of fruit balanced nicely with earth and tannins. A wine of interest and character. So much more to offer than the good but not great Napa cabs served the same evening.

May 6, 2018 - From a magnum as well. Turns out previous note wasn't quite right - this wine wasn't ready yet even a few years later. I'm still finding my way around Barolo, but one thing I've always appreciated from this producer is a crispness and cleanness to the flavor profiles. Not obvious here. It's a wine that to be honest isn't living up to the price point at the moment I think. More old dirt pathway and barn that needs to be renovated. Unfortunate as generally I love this producer. Not a bad wine, but just not a great one.

October 22, 2016 - Annual Pilgrimage to Piedmont - 2016 Edition; 10/21/2016-10/23/2016 (Piedmont, Italy): From Magnum and decanted for 2 hours.
A very solid wine just about entering its drinking window and given 3-4 years more this would match the excellent 2001 we had a year ago (Papies 95) if not more.
Good solid fruit level here, depth and layered, dark cherry, no feel of oak, good acidity and firm tannin. Would have loved a bit more evolution which would have added some more charm but we are confident this will come aith a couple more years in bottle. 94-95 for now and a glorious wine in the making.

    May 3, 2015 - WOW!!!

Amazing wine with amazing character. Opens up tightly with plums, graphite, leather and harsh tanins. After 2h in the bottle smoothens to cherry, black berries with tar and spices. Amazing experience

December 26, 2012 - Boxing Day Long Lunch at Top Deck, Aberdeen Marina, Hong Kong (Top Deck, Jumbo Floating Restaurant, Aberdeen Marina, Hong Kong): From a magnum generously provided by Todd. Colour is still dusky semi-translucent colour. Nose of dried rose flowers and sharp red cherry fruit with hints of smokiness and fried bacon. Palate is moderate-weight dusky feathered tannins encompassing nice semi-dried red berries and a good red brick dusk classic finish. We didn't do this bottle due justice on a busy family afternoon so I may well have under-scored it.

November 5, 2010 - Super complex with aromas and flavours of menthol, Satsuma plum, cedar, cherry, coal smoke and balsamic. It is extremely rich, dense and chewy with lovely sweet, dark fruits and an engaging mineral footprint is left once the abundant tannins have had their way with your mouth.

April 21, 2010 - 2004 Barolo Tasting: Grandeur of Wine; 4/20/2010-4/21/2010 (Hilton Hotel Singapore): More developed nose of tar/roses/lea with leather. The most lingering fruit flavours with beautiful elegance combined with power and finese. One of the best tasted so far. Long with just enough tannins . Very measured and balanced effort.
