Best bottle of this Cote de Brouilly to date. Everything has come together very nicely and all the elements are integrated and in perfect balance. Lots of juicy red fruit with good minerality and perhaps a little less of the briar notes of previous bottles. Smack bang in the middle of its drinking window.
Last of six (6). Similar to prior experience Red cherry, raspberry, with earthy/floral notes. Lively on the palate; acidity present provides required lift to counter richly laden fruit. Delivers lovely even finish. Fully integrated but still plenty of life here. Drink soon.
Lovely red fruited. Good weight. Surprisingly so, suggesting old vines and great vineyard care. This bottle shows no signs of being beyond its peak. This bottle would go many more years, given the chance. On the firmer side of Beaujolais, with none of the florals that Fleurie gives us. I expect it will open up with time in the glass.

Relatively dark in the glass. Black and red fruit on the nose and plate (think dark cherry and cranberry) which also shows a considerable savoury presence of briary stems, earth and a cool herbaceous note. A bucketload of racy acidity on the palate. Medium weight and length.

This wine is in a great place right now, with a little exposure to air - say, 20 minutes in the glass or 30 in a decanter. The preliminary curtain of sandy tannins parts, granting ingress to succulent, juicy fruit flavors which lean cherry, and engaging attention by the contrast in textures. Fine acidity and good balance, everything very nicely proportioned, no flab. Only seven months since my last bottle, but this one is much better than I recall from that sample; sipping after the wine had been in the glass for a bit, I really had to do a double take, so surprised was I by the quality and impact of the inner fruit. My favorite Beaujolais, I'd say, or maybe tied with Foillard Morgon du Py, which offers great flavors and textures in a distinctly different presentation of Gamay.
With the caveat that I don’t drink a lot of Beaujolais, this is probably at peak right now, and similarly enjoyable to the note I had in May of this year.

Six (6) years since last visited. Light ruby in color with muted aromas of red cherry, raspberry, and violet. Medium bodied, fresh with underlying strength; warm red fruit flavors are accompanied with earthy/floral notes. Nimble on the palate; acidity present provides required lift to counter richly laden fruit winding to evenly delivered finish. Still plenty of life here but likely at the back end of its drinking window. Drink now or hold.

Very nice: palate-cleansing acidity, stern (but not too stern) tannins, modest depth and complexity. No sign of fatigue. Thivin is always the least Beaujolais-tasting Beaujolais I taste, and preferable to 90% of Bordeaux of my experience.

Pretty good today. Black & red berry fruit on the nose, with a savory note as well. Good acidity on the palate. I'm kind of agnostic when it comes to Gamay/Beaujolais, but I am enjoying this on a sunny Tuesday afternoon.

Some recent notes have made me curious - glad I checked on it. The first night there is no joy to be found, just shrill acidity, well-concealed fruit that's more an apparition than a partner of any kind. After pouring/drinking a glass with a dish of roasted chicken, I put the remainder of the bottle in the fridge, and brought it out again on night #4 - wow, the transformation is complete! Rusticity in the background, but full (for this wine) fruits out in front. Love the sense of place and balance here, each glass more exciting than the one before it. Pretty much a 180 from night #1, so if you're expecting good things here, wait another 5-6 years for these screechy acids to settle in - even then, will need lots of air, I imagine. Lots of fun, this lesson. 13,0% abv., HOLD. recommended+

About three years since my last note on this wine. Color is a translucent ruby, with blackberry and raspberry fruit on the nose.
Pronounced, bordering on shrill, acidity. At this point that kind of dominates the palate. Quite tart. I'll see if this smooths out later when paired with some food, but I'm not enjoying it right now.
PnP in Burg glass. My first sips were wow, is this ever balanced, resolved and tasty! Lighter red color. Another alluring btl with sappy ripe Chambolle cherries and minerality on a vibrant frame. A panoply of graceful, yet energetic. elegant spicy red fruit flavors. Perfectly pure ripe fruit. Intellectual and yet so accessible and placid. Gorgeous Burgundy, I mean, Beaujolais! 13% Alc. Paid $21 locally on release. 92+/93-. Wish I could find more of these! This is drinking perfectly right now and showing no signs of falling off. My last of 4 btls.

Not as enchanting as it was on release, but it has unclenched from the stern period it entered a year post release. Some of that mouth coating fruit is back, though it is still showing quite a bit of back end acidity. Interesting wine that I wish I had bought a case of, as it is following an intriguing trajectory. Good stuff and worth some additional patience if you have some.

Red fruit and funky nose. Tart red cherry palate, almost sour. Moderate chalky finish. Will reassess on day 2, but acidity seems to be moving to the fore. On night 2 was much smoother, slightly darker fruit profile. Lengthy tart and chalky but rather simple finish.

Popped and poured, youthful purple/ruby. Intriguing nose shows black raspberry, cherry, fresh cilantro, iron, earthy funk and subtle hints of black licorice. Seems to become more red-fruited as it aerates. Medium body, nice concentration. Such an expression of earthy, somewhat saline minerals and crushed stones on the palate...and while there's decent fruit underneath, it's the encapsulated purity of transparent terroir that defines this lovely wine. That said, this is still just a baby and there's a substantial chalkiness of tannins on the persistent close. Drink now with a decent amount of air, better to hold for 3-5+ years (if not a decade longer).

Deep red color. Aromas of red plums and sour cherries. Ripe, high acid juicy fruit in the mouth with very good depth and excellent length. Unusual grip and persistence on the palate for a Beaujolais. Very "old school" in style and substance. Though still very young, delicious with the excellent fish at Little Fish Restaurant.

Bright, beautifully zingy fruit, excellent balance (fine acidity), nice slight funk. It got only better over 5 nights, gassed and refrigerated in between. Lovely example, and we are happy to have more and see how it evolves.

Acid was powerful upon opening and this didn't stick around long enough to watch it develop much. Decent red fruit, but pretty hard at the moment and not giving up a lot. I believe that this will continue to develop, and the price was right, but the few bottles of Thivin I've had don't convince me that this is worth holding long enough to see if it turns into something truly interesting.

Franche acidité et belle fraicheur dès l'ouverture. Belle mâche, tannin solide , fruit en équilibre . Un vin de matière; riche. Sera encore meilleur dans un ans ou deux. Superbe beaujolais bien charpenté.

About 10 months since I last tried this wine; translucent ruby in the glass, with a "fresh" nose that features red & black fruits, like a raspberry/blackberry combo.
Very smooth on the palate; nice legs. Tart red fruits - this is quite good right now, although I think that it still has some ability to improve with further age.

Nice concentration of dark cherry and minerality, with a floral top note and a hint of confectioners sugar. Good balance and texture is evident on entry. The fruit aromas become more austere in the mouth. The finish is driven by gently drying tannins.

Racy red berries and sour-tinged cherry really drives the flavour here. There is some rocky minerality and subtle vegetal/savoury elements, but this is primarily about bright fruit and acid structure. I found the acids a little too prominent on day one, but the wine showed better integration and balance on the second day, with the acids marrying nicely with the other flavours. I think this will be better in 3-4 years.

Just a bit better than the last btl. Showing more depth and some forest floor. Very floral on the nose. This has vibrant acidity and crunchy red fruit flavors. Only one left now. I'll attempt to buy some more but may be gone locally.

Integrating. Nose of bramble, loam, and red fruits. Palate is still sharply defined with tart cherry and a nice chalky stone note underneath. Moderate finish. Very nice wine especially for the price.

Rich cranberry sauce, sour cherries, some minerals, and hint of iron come through. Bright and red fruited, this is a bit on the acidic side, so food is needed. Poultry dishes would pair well.

Really want to like this, but not working for me. Decanted for one hour, and it's OK. Let it sit over night, and it's still OK. I really LOVE beaujolais, so that's not the problem. Lots of 09s and 10s in my cellar. Maybe '11 is not for me.

From a half bottle. Quite bright with some sweet, tart cherry/cranberry. Minerality with the slightest bit of cola. Lively acidity, smooth texture with very light tannin--much less tannic than I remember the 2010 being. Not sure this one will last as long, but a great drink now that offers both friendliness and a bit to contemplate.

Very good wine. A Beaujolais with substance. That nice Gamay flavor with good mouthfeel and good complexity; dense for a Beaujolais; this is not your mom's Beaujolais. Would drink again and again. Not high in alcohol.

Great cherry and saline nose, with a little brett (or reduction) that took a few hours to blow off. Palate is a little less exciting, with some tartness to the mid palate, and a darker side to the red fruit on the nose. Tannins are rather coarse with a hint of bitterness, and the finish is rather earth driven and a little short. Seems like it could use a few more years. Nice value. 90-91

Had to open one of these after all the buzz. Dark ruby. There is wood and mint on the nose. The palate is delicious with black cherry, berry, well balanced acidity with medium to long finish. Not overly complex, not sure of it's aging potential, but really great now. Excellent qpr.

Can a wine be too delicious? This sure seems to be. On opening it was exploding with red fruit and backed by minerals. Supple but not flabby, each sip brought me back for the next. Over the course of 3 hours it developed savory elements that added complexity and took the wine from merely delicious (a worthy goal) and added interesting to the mix. All fhis for $20? Sign me up for a whole lot more.

PnP into a PN glass. True to form and one of my most reliably alluring buys. With an hour in the glass this offers an intriguing fresh fruit and minerally nose. The minerality carries over big time on the palate along with graceful red fruit flavors. This is a sweet spot producer for both my palate and my wallet. I like this so much more than some other storied but more ponderous Bojo producers. This is the intellectual Chambolle version of Bojo. Great value, versatility and pleasure for just $21. 3 more left to appreciate over time. This wine & Nicole Chanrion's Cote Brouilly satisfy all my wants from Cru Beaujolais.

PNP and consumed over two days. Medium ruby in color the nose was rather restrained initially but unwound somewhat by day two. Still cloying... yet exhibiting notes of tart raspberry, strawberry, red cherries laced with whimsical wisps of flowering lilac. Chalk minerality with medium acidity and astringent tannins. Medium finish. Share the opinion similar to others here…..this is quite nice but needs some time in the bottle to round out the edges. Re-visit in 3-5 years.

Not ripe enough for my taste. The fruit skews toward cran-apple and peach and the acidity is too high. Light and wispy in the mouth. Drunk out of a metal bottle at a picnic, which probably didn't help. My least favorite 2011 Beaujolais so far, they couldn't have let the grapes hang a little bit longer?
Young but giving up enough enjoyment that you won't kick yourself for opening one now (like most all of the 2011 Beaujolais I've tried). Plenty of good bojo funk and clean, primary fruits on the front end, with lovely acidity and minerals on the finish. Would love to revisit this with a couple more years of bottle age under its belt.

A darker fruit nose with a hint of funk and Forrest floor. A good contrast between red and black fruit on the palate with a bit of a ripe fruit component. Extracted on the front end, the mid-palate is vibrant with good acidity and finishes with a tannic bite. Quite good...

Beaujolais & Bourgogne (The Wine Country, Signal Hill, CA): Nose showed aromatic distinct Gamay. On the palate, fruit forward with aggressive tannins. Good acidity and structure. Good now, but probably best to lay this one down for a year or five.

Very tightly knit at this point, showing some pretty fierce tannic structure, plenty of underlying minerality, some dense tobacco tinged fruit and ample acidity. Consumed over a 2 week period out of magnum and left corked on a countertop, the wine was finally a pleasing and more fruit forward drink at the end of those 2 weeks. I would cellar this for at least 5 years.

Basketball, Beaujolais, and More! (Weygandt Wines - Washington, DC): The nose is somewhat closed but nevertheless reveals brambly mixed red berries, mushroom, and purple florals. High-toned palate mixed berry palate, with spice and tones of forest floor. The medium length finish features tart red fruit, herbs, and chalk minerality. This is very good, but needs some time in the bottle to shed a bit of fruit. Hold. R&M88

This is not as good as the 2010 - lacks the depth and weight but this is still pretty good Beaujolais considering the less than stellar vintage. Offers the same friendly dusty, chalky tannins, mineral tinged purple fruits. very juicy and fresh. perfect food wine.

Bought this 'by accident" thinking I was picking up another bottle of the 2010. Tries this last night with leftover turkey and all the fixings. I definitely preferred the 2010 over this (not tasted side by side). That being said, it wasn't a landslide. I get the tarter side that this offers, but over the course of an extended evening, this opened up and I got more of the dark fruit that the 2010 had had up front. This need time. At $23 a bottle, not sure I'll be back for more, but if you have it and have been a bit discouraged by other notes, I'd say either give it a bit more time in bottle, or open, decant to give it some air and serve after an hour or so. I think it will reward that.

Poped and poured. Medium to medium-plus ruby/purple hue. Immediately off the pop, this shows pronounced aromas of earth, string bean, charred stone, cigar ash, and under-ripened berries. After a good 30-45 minutes of aeration, cherry fruit emerges along with pretty floral aromas more typical of Beaujolais. Medium body. Sour cherry, iron, iodine, chalk, and green on the palate, along with both red and black fruits. Moderate-plus acidity with coarse, chewy tannins lingering on the moderate close...almost abrasively so. Comes off as backwards and made in an old school style, clearly one to forget about for at least 3-5 years. That said, there is much potential in this bottle, especially if the green recedes. If opening now, be sure to aerate or decant.

On the Thanksgiving table next to a carafe of 2010 Lapierre this was frankly embarrassed. Where the Lapierre has fabulously complex aromas and a layered palate this seemed simple and one-dimensional. In another context perhaps my opinion would be different but there's no question of my preference on this occasion.

E&R's 3rd Annual Beaujolais Weekend; 11/17/2012-11/18/2012 (E&R Wine Shop, Portland OR): Tart and light fruits on the nose. There's also something a little funky to it; perhaps a light whiff of brett. The palate has a larger presence to it, with none of that funk, just nice mild fruit flavors with some green briar and plenty of tartness. Grippy and lightly gritty finish, but this builds as it leaves the palate, leaving tartness.

Thivin is the oldest estate in this appellation. The vines are 50+ years old with herbs and flowers planted between the rows. Aged for 6 months in large barrels. This can age for a few years in bottle. I had the 2006 and thought it was outstanding also. Bought a magnum of this for $19 (less than half price). A serious Beaujolais. Floral nose. Paired with Thanksgiving dinner (good match with turkey). Fruity with notes of boysenberries and wild cherries. Light to medium bodied. 90-91 points.

Integrating. Nose of bramble, loam, and red fruits. Palate is still sharply defined with tart cherry and a nice chalky stone note underneath. Moderate finish. Very nice wine especially for the price.

Nice value. 90-91

The palate has a larger presence to it, with none of that funk, just nice mild fruit flavors with some green briar and plenty of tartness. Grippy and lightly gritty finish, but this builds as it leaves the palate, leaving tartness.
