3/6 A very clean bottle after the first couple had a funky edge. Pretty decent. Classic mid-weight claret. Lovely nose of pencil shavings. Little fruit, but nicely savoury finish. Perhaps darting out a little after 3-4 hours? Drink now.

Opened and given a short around of air. Tannins fully resolved, nice cedar nose once the initial 'funk' (there must be a better word) had dissipated. Still plenty of fruit although quite dry. Had with a very mild, tomato-rich chilli and matched well no greenness, a bit of earth, plenty of life left. Enjoyed and great value at £20 for a magnum in a bog-standard French soupy.

2/6. Still a funky edge to these but in a good place too. Plenty of colour and needs a little decanting for heavier sediment - little fine sediment. Nose of leather and sweat. Palate fairly dry and narrow; as is finish - a luncheon sort of claret. Better with food too. Good value and holding up well. No hurry but no need to wait any longer.

1/6. Perfect provenance. Quite funky to start with a touch of Brett in a sort of enjoyable way. Drying finish so better with food. Next day seemed sweeter, and funky quality gone but no real character. Decent.

I'm a bit surprised at the scores below. This is decent, fresh, redcurrant driven "Sunday lunch" claret. Doesn't shoot the lights out, but at £25 for a magnum, with at least 5 years ahead of it, I'm happy to have a couple more.

Functional. Four square. No faults or redeeming features. Tastes like a (dry) St Estephe to me. Blackberry, blackcurrant, ash, earth, etc. Low acidity makes this a good restaurant choice but even more boring to me. Still have more bottles left. Damn you Wine Society cellar plan. Yawn....

Nice classic Bordeaux. Very smooth texture, but missing a bit of tannins for my taste. I will drink my other bottles of this vintage soon as it seems not to get any better with further aging.

Over two nights. Initial nose of dish water and earth. With time, out comes fruit sweetness, smoke and earth. Savoury notes to the fore, this is gaining balance. It isn't as dusty as previous bts. Finish brings out the fruit. Good without food now. Still going and tasting better than its price point in my view.

The wine looks Crimson colored with brown edges. The legs are Medium. It smells like nearly ripe Black currant (cassis), Strawberry stewed, and Forest floor, its got that claret nose. It tastes like Black currant (cassis), and a bit of tannin and freshness. The body is Medium. The wine has Angular texture. The wine finishes Medium. It needs food and should be nice with lamb

This has pt on some weight since the last bottle. Still youthful in appearance with some sediment. Nose of dark fruit and wood smoke. Mouth of rich sweet fruit, some drying tannins but well balanced. Nice spine of acidity. Medium finish. Tasty. tasty wine.

Gamy, gravely and plummy, also some pleasant, not too dirty funk and nice pure grapy fruit. Ok, but not really cohesive at all. I liked this better almost 3 years ago when it was rough/unready but tasted better and was more complex.

Classically styled Claret. Medium bodied, relatively austere, lots of tannins, chewiness, savoury flavours, but some nice dainty dark fruits too. Good solid Bordeaux for the price. Much better with food than without.

Good weekday claret. Full, involving bouquet. Rather drying initial phase but works its way around the gums nicely, developing character along the way. Not a long finish but very acceptable.

Nice Bordeaux on the richer side, very surprisingly so considering the vintage and age -- it's quite densely fruited. But it's starting to show some nice development with a fairly expressive aroma combining cedar and the savoriness that comes with a bit of bottle age.

No formal notes taken. Opened an hour prior to consumption, the general impression was of a wine more reminiscent of a Rioja than a Bordeaux - perhaps improper storage in store? Based on this tasting, would not try again and would not recommend.

Drank with another Haut-Medoc Cru Bourgeois Supérieur wine Château Beaumont. Both express itself in a different style with good terroir expression. Dark and vibrant red with purple tinge, this one got more fruits on the nose, still youthful, with notes of spicy oak. Still tight on the palate, with cassis, floral and supple notes of gravel mineral, it has good finesse with firm structure and lingering finish. This has good quality and aging potential.

Decent MF colour, emerging cassis nose, firm palate, nice fruit & balance. A nice basic claret almost ready for drinking but will keep a few years more & round off a little. Not a long keeper however.

Not as good as I remember the last bottle to be but the roasted garlic in my dinner may have had an effect!! The nose was blackberry and pencil lead while the palate was fruity and smooth. This is a good value medoc that probably has another 5 years in it.

Dark red in colour. Lovely blackcurrant and lead pencil nose - classic claret. Mid-weight on palate with lots of acidity and tannin and nicely balanced. Very nice to drink now, but a few more years will soften the edges from this wine and make it a real beauty. Fantastic value for money.

Dominant graphite with cassis on the nose. Dominant fruit and strong tannin with low acidity on the mouth. Medium to good length. Probably needs a couple of years, but will lack the balance to be decent.
Drank the next day and the tannins had softened significantly. Became much more drinkable. Enjoyed especially at this price. SPO thanks for the recommendation!

The nose is muted on opening. At first spicy plum and milk chocolate, but shortly after opening this is obscured. This is relatively tannic, but at the same time there are no real rough edges. The acid seems relatively mild. A little time and the nose shows some fruit, wood and licorice. A little earth and funk emerge and the palate shows a great sweet red fruit essence, like nectar and a pure sweet cherry flavor. There may be a hint of mint in there as well. Tannins are still a kick in the teeth and the acid seems a little more apparent now. This wine can have a smooth mellowness and then go back to having some tannic and acidic qualities. But even at its most tannic and acidic it is apparent that this wine is well made.
HOLD: Flashes of brilliance were apparent, but there is a toughness to this wine that needs age. Be patient.
Tried the leftover half the 2nd day. More depth in flavor, some balsamic and forest type flavors show well with the aforementioned delicious fruit. Not a big fan of decanting, but for this wine if I was going to open another in the near term. I would open it, pour it into a decanter and then back into the bottle and drink it the next evening.
