Saturday, August 19, 2006 - Drank from magnum. A pleasant surprise. This had been hanging around the cellar for a long time. Thought it might be over the hill, but was not--surprisingly youthful. Great medium color, showing just the slightest bit of age around the edges. Upon opening, the same big fruity nose that I remember from its youth, with rosy floral notes and vanilla. On the palate, nicely balanced fruit. No funk on the nose, a bit of funk on the palate, but that quickly went away. Developed a bit over the next three hours, with the nose becomming more full, round, voluptious. Smooth and balanced vanilla and oak on the nose and palate. A bit of damp forest floor came on. The wine became more tart, with bitter cherries. Better when first opened, but very nice.
