Saturday, May 23, 2015 - BJAMESCLARK's TN pretty well nailed it. This wine is a party in a glass. Deep, dark, glass-staining purple in color. The nose is clean, with blackberry, blueberry, baked fruit and baking spices (cinnamon), toasted pine-nuts and smoky new oak. The palate is dry, but with lots of sweet fruit upon entry, including blackberry, black cherry, and strawberry shortcake. The alcohol is medium (+) to pronounced at 15%, yet the wine is a lot more balanced than might appear at first swirl and sniff, thanks to medium (+) acidity and medium (+) to pronounced tannins. This is a full-bodied wine with medium (+) to pronounced flavor intensity. Thanks to its velvety and rich mouthfeel, this wine lingers on the palate through a long finish. This is a great cocktail wine, but it is an even better food wine. It provides a good foil to savory, salty and fatty foods which really help bring out its complexity. It is drinking very well right now, but it clearly has the structure and stuffing to last several more years. Very impressive effort.
