Tuesday, May 19, 2015 - A very interesting style of wine: clearly true to its Bierzo roots with almost Rioja aromas and flavors, yet more modern in style: not acidic or dry in the old Rioja way! Very deep purple, almost black. Nose shows cherry pastille, leather and spice, really intriguing black fruit aromas that come and go as you swirl the glass. Sweet and yet not overripe, and in fact with substantial acidity that gives the front palate a kind of "bite". Then lush and rather chewy in the midpalate; tannins here are very fine and rounded, like for a California cab. Long finish. I honestly don't know what to compare this to. Very nice now and will be good for a few years but I don't have any idea if it will improve with age. This wants a pretty strongly flavored meat dish: grilled lamb, perhaps, with garlic and spices, or marinated kebabs...
