89 Points

Sunday, September 9, 2012 - Popped and poured at 11 am for the NY Jet's tailgate this Sunday. An excellent wine with reasonable multi-flavor complexity that went down very smoothly. I'll pass on the nose because we were outside in the parking lt with grills all around us drinking out of Martha Stewart tulip wine glasses. The palate was pepper spice, meat juices and raspberry, with some dark tart cherry. I looked for the emergence of the raspberry since this is a grenache-based wine and it was there, but a bit on the light side. I checked the Guigal web site this morning at the blend is 50% grenache, 20% syrah and 30% mourvedre, which I think explains the lighter raspberry component mixing with syrah pepper spice and meaty mourvedre. This wine did not quite get the WOW 90+ points but it is a pleasure to drink it.
