Sunday, November 16, 2014 - Dinner with the family at WD-50 (WD-50, NYC): Dad's bottle. This stuff is good. It's not the edgiest or most cut champagne out there, but damn it is delicious. Nose of toast, vanilla creme, malt balls, red apples, flint, maybe a bit of meyer lemon as well. Very forward and rich nose, but it clearly has the structure to age. The palate is similar - brioche, toast, vanilla creme and malt balls lead, then the red apple and some nice minerality. The mousse is soft and fine. This is on the richer side, but has some verve and will age well. Showing well and consistent with my last note. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17/20.
