1990 Château Cheval Blanc

Community Tasting Note

97 Points

Sunday, November 25, 2012 - Called blind. Bordeaux hinting at a great Burgundy/ Rhone. Clearly different in color (darker), texture (obtuse and silky), and flavor (fruit forward) from the '89 Lynch and '90 Ausone at the same tasting. Texture was polished fruit and licorice melted down. A combination of red and dark fruit clearly overshadowed any secondary notes as I cannot remember those. Obviously fat but the mandarin oranges told me that there was great acidity even though probably greater extraction. Maybe a little residual sugar made this wine so seductive in the midpalate, but who cares. A uniquely amazing bottle of wine. The nobility showed through in spades.
