2009 M. Chapoutier Gigondas

Community Tasting Note

Saturday, November 26, 2011 - Give this a bit of time in a decanter or in the glass and it will reward. Not a wine to set your life alight, but then why should it? It is a bottle of wine. Restrained wine making with bright, brisk red fruits undercut with a smooth tannic structure that gives a well rounded balance. A firm finish with a tarte follow-through - enough regional character to lift this above anything new-world orientated in the same price range. I found it quite decent value for £15/$23. No excess heat, no pointed or aggressive tannins, just decent southern Rhone wine that works very well with food.
