Wednesday, January 23, 2013 - Dark ruby all the way to a thin lavender meniscus. Big glass staining legs.
On the nose, chocolate, blackberry, plum, cherry, cedar, licorice and mossy forest floor.
On the palate, fresh fruit, medium but rough/angular tannins front and back, slight alcohol heat, black berries and cherries, nice acid.
Medium-long finish, with some nice charred charred oak becoming apparent.
With air the tannins became more chalky/powdery and wine started to show more balance
I must add that this has a classic Napa profile on the palate, with a hint of vanilla. This significantly exceeded my expectations, which were based on the label and the production volume.
I think this is going to be quite respectable as some age smooths out the tannins and it becomes more integrated.
Will try again in 3 years - looking forward to it actually
