Sunday, May 6, 2012 - One of the best wines I've ever had from Rioja. The bouquet is so complex and perfumed I could just smell this wine for hours and be happy. Floral scents weave in between dark cherry and baking spices and tanned leather. A hint of dill from the oak is absolutely classic for Rioja aged in American oak and I consider it a marker for superior wines from this region. One person tasting this with me described the nose as "divine." The palate is broad and complex, dark cherry, damson plum, cocoa dust, all come across in a silky smooth, integrated package. Hard to believe this has 11 years of bottle age already, should show well for many, many years. This is refined Tempranillo from one of the best producers on the planet in regards to this varietal.
