Monday, December 31, 2012 - Notes from 2 equally good yet totally different bottles drank over dinner with friends.
Bottle nr.1 had a medium brick color and a lovely, fully mature nose of mushrooms, red cherry, spice, smoke and noble animal notes. Medium-bodied and silky-textured with nice tertiary flavors and balancing acidity. Long aftertaste. Very elegant and ready to drink.
Bottle nr. 2 showed a dark garnet color and a fruity nose of red and dark cherry fruit, blackberries, sweet spices and smoke. On the palate it was medium-bodied with firm tannins, rich fruit and high acidity. Long aftertaste. Quite youthful.
If tasted blind, I would have assumed that bottle nr. 2 was at least 5 years younger than bottle nr.1. A great example of a different evolution between 2 bottles of the same vintage and the same wine.
