Finally got around to drinking the bottle I was given as a really nice gift after helping a colleague. Upon first opening, one drinker called it "interesting." It didn't impress immediately, but I could tell that there was something going on and it was going to change. And the slightly musty flavors receded quickly, leaving a warm sensation framed by plums, baking spice, black grape skins, mild tobacco, and just enough acidity. I'm not convinced this is going anywhere from here, but my history with RE riojas is pretty limited. Fine for now, but not revelatory. With air, something to serve to guests. Another tasty Spanish wine for those with New World palates looking to make the transition and, compared to a lot of Bordeaux, still a decent value in a wine with age.

    8/6/2013 12:40:00 AM - Hi there Not647f,
Mostly agree. This is not an extraordinary wine but a good, honest and easy drink, a nice first step in Rioja.
Take care. Those opinions about Rioja beating some Bordeaux, even only by value, can be dangerous for your health :-)
    I think that's a good point.
    Cheers,
