Thursday, February 26, 2015 - Very different from last time I tasted this, up on release.
This is going thru a phase now, showing very different, and perhaps not very 2009 (which is a good thing too me!)
Nose is very green, with stalks/stems, dry herbs and grass and dust.
Very Cabernet Franc like.
Green & vegetal, with some earth, minerals and spices present.
It was dusty and green up on release, but these ingredients are even more prominent right now.
Palate shows fine and dry tannins and good structure, with somewhat dry fruit, red berries, high acidity and good length.
Same green profile with stems present, as on the nose.
However, very far from the 2002, 2006, 2008 and 2010 DRC Echezeaux’s I have tasted in later time, and in this state of development, not nearly as good as those vintages of the same wine.
The good thing is that the almost sweet and overripe dark fruit previously shown in this wine, is not as all as prominent, but are getting dryer and cleaner.
Fine cherries and ripe raspberries, with a long finish.
Hopefully a good sign of where the 2009’s may end up, on the other side?
This was good, and my wine of the night in tonight’s blind sampling of 12 wines.
It really came along with more time in the glass, and showed better and better during the evening.
