Wednesday, February 18, 2015 - Dark chocolatey Merlot stands up strongly right now. Tannins seem medium strong and focused down the center of the palate. Still on the rich side with depth. Just starting to show some mature notes but if anything needs more time for complexity. Wanted for some more acidity at this point with that fruit still being rich and a bit on the ripe side but that will less of a bother as it leans out. Lot's of chunky sediment so this may not have been filtered fully. Overall this shows a nice classic character. Not a bunch of new oak sticking out. Not soft, ripe fruit. Just very nice Bordeaux fruit in a classic package. I would personally wait another 5 years honestly but drinks well now with a stiff decant. Still one of the best bargains from California.
