Monday, May 21, 2012 - Decanted 1 hour and rebottled. I had intended to open the 2008 but opened this by mistake but was pleasantly surprised at how balanced and approachable this is compared to the '08 at a comparable stage. Dark berry fruit on the palate with some typical spice and boysenberry but there were also notes of dark chocolate and integrated vanilla oak. Tannins were quite firm on the finish and there was just a little heat. Drank even better on day 2 when everything had come together nicely. It seems they have reduced the price for '09 to around $27 which makes it very good value in my opinion. Should improve over time.
