Thursday, April 23, 2015 - Pours a brilliant dark ruby/cranberry color. Opens up nicely after a couple hours decanted. Olive, earth, and dark coffee at first, followed by a strong iron note that muscles in and stays prominent throughout. Juicy bacon fat creeps around the edges. The fruit is strong with this one, with blackberry, black raspberry and plum keeping it on the dark side. There is a gorgeous mouthfeel that will just keep getting softer with age, with the whole package peaking in the next 5 years or so. This is a damn fine wine and an excellent display of Guigal's ability to deliver stunning quality at every level. Because, let's face it...they can't all be La-Las.
