Saturday, August 11, 2012 - Giant Wine Sale & Tasting 8/11/2012 (Cellar on Greene, Columbia, SC): When I got the first taste of this I was unaware it was from Washington, and produced by Charles Smith. My first impression on the nose was cotton candy, which, to me, is often a tell tale sign the longer hours of sunshine typical of Washington state. Dark magenta color. Ripe, mellow nose, with some flinty earthiness. The bright red fruit is backed up with some of those flinty, green pepper, and earthy tones. resulting in some interesting layers of flavors. Cute little tannins. Very smooth, balanced, and easy drinking. Nice job with alcohol and oak integration. Smooth, inviting finish with light black cherry and graphite.
