Tuesday, July 23, 2013 - Bordeaux, Burgs and Piedmont as Barry Lipton visits NYC. (Il Corso.): I've found most of the '95s I've had recently still rather hard and in need of more time, but I'd seen reports that this was drinking surprisingly well, so I figured it was time to check up on it. It shows a classic Bordeaux nose of black cherry, currants, cedar, light smoke notes, herbs and earth. On the palate it's surprisingly lush and fruit forward at the get go. There's a thickness in texture and a rich, sweet and friendly quality to the red fruit that's delicious, but there's also a powerful back end to the wine that sports some firm tannins that grew in prominence as the evening wore on and picked up more of an herb character. Still on the upswing, imo. Doesn't quite have the depth of the '89 or '90, but this is a terrific wine. Solid A-.
