1995 Château Montus Madiran

Community Tasting Note

90 Points

Tuesday, February 12, 2013 - Enjoyed at Del Frisco's Steakhouse Fort Worth TX. This wine was big, aged, and ready to go. It was decanted throughout the 2 hour dinner. It was rather ready to go right out of the bottle. The initial nose of the bottle was dark dense plum and fig with a tiny hint of barnyard and leather. The palate was more barnyard and plum with leather in the front, then some cola, fig, grilled meat, and smoke in the middle and towards the end. There was a barnyard element at first, but this kind of settled after 45-60 minutes. Finished with quite a bit of tannin still left in it. Definitely has settled from the enamel ripping characteristics of the younger bottles. After the wine settled, the grilled meat and cola really were the highlight of this, and went very well with the steak. A very nice enjoyable wine, and probably still has 4-5 years left.
