Friday, July 18, 2014 - Tasted at Total Wine in McLean, VA on July 18, 2014. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. My second time tasting this and seems to be a little better than when I tried it 6 months ago, but don't think its worth $40/bottle.

7/20/2014 7:28:00 PM - that's the thing about Total Wine. Given its volume of sales, I developed the impression that their prices would be better than average. What I found over the years was that their prices were spotty...some lower, and some higher. I think most cellar tracker folks paid $25 or less for this wine...which makes it a value

7/20/2014 7:54:00 PM - Thanks for your comment! I agree with you on the spotty pricing of their wine. I bought a 5th growth within the past 30 days that was 50% lower than what Total Wine charged for the exactly same vintage($30 vs $45). I am told that has more to do with when they bought it 'direct' from the producer than the current market. I do like their selection and offerings, but I sometimes feel a lot of their sit down tastings are to promote wines they want you to buy than about great and interest wines. Of course the rational part of me realizes they have to balance 'good' stuff with lesser wines to keep profitability.
