93 Points

Wednesday, May 8, 2013 - Wow. Stupendous bottle. PnP. Shimmering yellow gold with subtle green highlights, a bit of spritz on opening. Immediate, deep, expansive nose of very ripe baked apples and diesel, this is like smelling liquid sunshine splashed on warm slate. Riper palate than I expected, becoming less and less sweet, and even becoming quite dry, over time in glass. Not as crisp as say a 2001, this holds up well and certainly isn't flabby, but shines on its ripe fruit and bottle age. Plenty of tertiaries, some nice dry spices (nutmeg - good call, dzop) and balancing bitter notes on the tail end - a true Spatlese. Pure. Detailed. Stylish. This is a beauty. Fading at about the 2 hour mark, with no improvement, so drink up. 93 pts pure quality, 95 pts personal preference.
