Thursday, May 17, 2007 - Drinking really well right now, don't see any reason to hold this if you have 750s. Easily outshined by the 3L of '97 but with strikingly similar nose. The '99 had copious cassis, chocolate, and cherry on the palate along with plush tannin and a persistent finish, but was not as polished and powerful as the '97. Meanwhile the '01 had greater concentration and imho had greater purity and just overall seemed like a much more focused wine. While I certainly didn't think the insignias showed the best out of the bunch, they are definitely a testament to just how consistent phelps is year in and year out.
