The '99 had copious cassis, chocolate, and cherry on the palate along with plush tannin and a persistent finish, but was not as polished and powerful as the '97. Meanwhile the '01 had greater concentration and imho had greater purity and just overall seemed like a much more focused wine. While I certainly didn't think the insignias showed the best out of the bunch, they are definitely a testament to just how consistent phelps is year in and year out.
