Saturday, January 10, 2015 - Displaying gorgeously pure and detailed aromas of black cherries, black currant jam, and mulberry fruit wrapped in violet gum, toasty spices and nuanced leather and medicinal accent tones. Fairly rich in the mouth but not over done at all, this relies on some firm but well covered tannins for support that extends through the finish which shows a hint of dryness. The acidity is nicely measure, keeping the wine light on its feet. Fruity on the palate, though with more toasty spice and savory, leathery and slightly grapy notes on the midpalate all laced with a streak of hibiscus tea that lingers on the fairly long finish ending with a pop of jammy fruit and a hint of cutting minerality. A fascinating and distinct wine that shows the potential of thinking outside of the box.
