Color: Deep Garnett/Purple
Nose: Plum, Compost/Mulch, Soy
Overall: I thought I'd try one of the Patriots Merlot bottles I've been keeping in my cellar today. I liked the Gann Merlot I had a while back so it will be interesting to compare the two. This wine comes from Chile, and has 13.5% alcohol. The color is a deep, dark Garnet/Purple, almost bordering on inky, but not quite. On the nose I get Plum fruit, and compost or mulch, whic is interesting. Also, thinking I'm getting a bit of soy. Let's taste it. Recall, I haven't had it sitting for very long since opening, and only did the quick magic decant. Initially, it comes across a bit watery and thin. Hmm...not like the Gann Merlot. Getting the plum fruit, but actually, not a strong flavor at all for this wine. Some heat on the finish, which is short. Getting some earthy notes as well. Overall, I must say I'm not impressed. I definitely prefer the Gann over this, and am glad I have 3 more bottles of it, vs. one of this. For now, I will remain neutral and see if this improves over the next day or so. Thus, I score it a 79.
