Monday, February 10, 2014 - Followed over three nights. On opening this is bright red fruit freshly crushed and dried, iodine and iron. Immediately evokes Rugiens with its iron grip and its appealing weight and lift. On palate, this has sweet fruit, long velvety tannins, good weight and concentration, but dries out a bit on the finish. As the wine opens up, the fruit gets darker and tighter and this continues over the next two nights. Yes it's a 2003, but this suggests to me that this is far from being at its peak. There's plenty of matière to let this unfurled over the years. I suspect it will always have a bit of a drying finish but to me this is already very expressive of its place first and its vintage second.
