Tuesday, May 21, 2013 - This landmark 100% Sangiovese debuted in 1980 from Paolo de Marchi's Isole e Olena in Barberino Val d'Elsa near Florence. The name Cepparello is taken from an old stream, Borro Cepparello, originating in the highest point of the vineyards on the Isole e Olena estate in Chianti Classico. The wine is a selection of the best vineyards and is only produced in high-quality vintages. Perfumed with black cherry fruit, crushed red flowers and fennel bulb, the 2008 Cepparello delivers concentrated red fruit on the palate with a firm core of acid and a full-mid palate. 18 months in French barrique provide rounded tannins and lingering flavors of toast, vanilla and spice.
