88 Points

Thursday, May 5, 2016 - Dinner at Jade Palace. Half bottle. Deep red, touch of bricking at rim. This was a good wine and I liked it. The initial nose was extremely funky and dirty. Full of barnyard, soil, dirt and with slight aeration, there was iron, blood, copper and very tart fruit. I went Beaune, but this turned out to be an NSG. With extended time in glass, the edges rounded out, and there was much more fruit, with plums, pomegranate, sour cherries, new leather and gravel. The palate was well structured, with representation of a good NSG. Surprisingly acidic (for the vintage and format), this had good balance and was enjoyable. Touch short on the finish and complexity, but that's probably nit picking. Pretty sure this should see an additional couple of points for a 750.
