Sunday, March 6, 2016 - Color: nearly opaque core -> dense dense ruby rim with no real bricking evident. Pungent bouquet of motor oil, road tar, figs, prunes and Alban funk. Palate was nearly painfully intense on PnP so I let it aerate for about an hour and it became a bit more civilized. Uber-concentrated with tremendous body and acidity, this screams across the palate with asphalt, tar, leather, kirsch, roasted meat, black olive tapenade and smoke. My one quibble would be the alcohol (16.0%) does come though a bit on the finish unfortunately. Otherwise, this is a fabulous, crazy, delicious essence of a wine; once again 1'st Growth Cali Syrah.
