Saturday, September 9, 2006 - This wine is approx 95% Syrah, 5% Viognier. Its aged in 80-90% casks (of which about 35% are new); and the rest is aged in barrels that are15-20 years old. Total wood aging is about 36 months. The color is the expected dark red almost opaque. Upon opening the bottle, the recognizable white pepper appearred with hints of smoke and chocolate. This held thru on the palate, smoke, pepper and some dark fruit. The wine seemed to get tighter as it opened in the glass releasing some perfumed scents of blackberry. On the palate the tannins were well integrated as was the oak. Its a bit acidic at this time (and I'm a fan of acidity) so I would suggest waiting 3-5 years before thoroghly enjoying!
