88 Points

Sunday, June 17, 2012 - Balckberry and blueberry fruit on the nose, smoke, and a menthol note, but also, as others have noticed a big dose of american oak... which initially put me off. On the palate the wine attacks with great structure, relatively smooth tannin with a bright acidic backbone holding up the ripe fruit. Some of the dominating woodwork subdued with decanting, and after three hours I felt this wine really hit its stride. Black berry fruit on the palate, torrified coffee notes, peppey on the finish. I could see this wine improving vastly with age and will consider putting some away. Med long finish. For now 88 pts, but I will revisit this. Good enough to buy six and lay them down.
