Monday, November 15, 2010 - First German Pinot. VERY light color, pale, pale rose with a bit of peach. Faint aroma of strawberries, cherries, a little perfume, yeast and a bit of "Pinot" funk. Slightly effervescent. Very light body, nice crisp acidity, palate follows the nose with a bit of waxy "crayon" on the finish? Not much of a finish, and after being open an hour quickly loses what little punch it had. Would be great chilled in the summer time. Would buy a case if it was $7 or $8 a bottle. But I think I can find plenty of other options at this price point. Pleasant enough, went nicely with a pan seared duck liver, balsamic-dressed greens with bits of roast duck, and with French onion soup (Les Halles' recipe from Bourdain).
