Sunday, December 6, 2015 - Enjoyed this over a couple of nights. The nose was a consistent mix of blackberry, blueberry, grape jam, pencil lead, earth and a hint of vodka. In other words, the nose was fruity but a touch hot. The palate was much more balanced: again dominated by blackberry and blueberry, but alongside some juicy plum and cranberry, white pepper, green pepper, pencil lead, clay and forest floor. The blackberry really took over on the second night. Solid fruit, bright acidity and just enough tannin. This tasted like what you'd expect from a pairing of good Syrah and good Cabernet Sauvignon.

It didn't have the incredible mouth-coating quality and long-lasting finish I usually associate with Fairview Cellars. In fact, the finish felt a bit thin. Having recently tasted the 2012, I know that Bucket O' Blood can be a powerhouse. I think this wine might be starting to fade a bit. The bottle said it would be best consumed after December 2013, but December 2015 seems like it be the ideal time to still enjoy this fine winter wine.
